The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Just got home from watching Eclipse and had to come throw down a few thoughts about the film.

A few years ago a good friend of Kara's suggested that she start reading the Twilight series because it's what teens are reading and it would be a great point of conversation for kids in our church...

The Blind Side

Last Thanksgiving my mother-in-law told me about a book she had just finished reading that she thought I would love. The book was Michael Lewis' novel about the evolution of football around the Left Tackle position and how that evolution changed the life of a once homeless black boy from Memphis who had been adopted by a rich white family. A few weeks later I got The Blind Side for Christmas and couldn't put it down.

Adam (2009)

I first heard of Adam, where else? On Fresh Air of course. Adam is the story of a young man living in the city whose life is changed when a pretty young woman named Beth moves into his apartment. Beth is really intrigued by Adam from the beginning and a friendship is born that quickly becomes something more. There's something different about Adam that Beth can't figure out and that turns out to be part of Adam's charm.

A Christmas Carol (2009)

Recently I was itching to see a movie, and lacking for any Oscar worthy options I opted to check out A Christmas Carol, the new 3D animated feature starring Jim Carrey. I'd read mixed reviews, but I'm a fan of the story and was interested in checking out another 3D film.

Precious

Precious is the kind of movie that will tear you to shreds but leave you with hope. The story of an overweight black teenage girl living with her abusive mother in Harlem, precious will break your heart over and over again in the two hours it's on screen. This is not the PG version of the inspirational after-school special. Precious is an incredibly raw and honest film.

Here Am I. Send Me.

I turned on the radio as I was driving home this afternoon. The soothing sounds of NPR are a constant companion in my little old Civic. This particular afternoon, Talk of the Nation was broadcasting live from Fort Hood in Texas. It was the memorial service at the site of a tragic shooting just days ago where 13 people were killed and 43 were wounded.
