The Denver Broncos are for real. This off-season everyone wrote off the Broncos as a team going nowhere, trading away their only prized possession in Jay Cutler. When Cutler went to Chicago pundits jumped the Broncos ship like rats on the Titanic… on fire.
Then the Broncos went 3-0 and everyone the pundits didn’t relent, saying that Denver was only beating the worst teams in the NFL. The suffocating defense allowing 5 points a game wasn’t given much credit during that run either. But I kept thinking, last year we would have found a way to let the Browns hang 28 points on us, we would have let the Raiders hang around and score a bunch of points. Sure we weren’t playing the cream of the crop, but this team was different.
Then in week four Denver started the meaty, tough part of the schedule against a slew of really top-notch teams. Beginning with Dallas. After giving up 10 points in the first quarter to the Cowboys, the Broncos hung tough and played inspired defense to win 17-10. “A fluke!” said the haters, “we’ll see what happens to them when they play the Patriots!”
The storyline was very similar today, Denver let the Patriots get out to an early lead going into half time down 17-7, and just like last week the Broncos came out playing stellar defense, shutting out the Patriots in the 2nd half and rallying to tie the game in spite of two bone-headed penalties when the Pats were punting. And in OT the Broncos sealed the deal. Check out highlights here. So Denver is 5-0 and they are for real.
But if the Broncos never wear those uniforms again (especially the socks) it will be too soon!

Word up my friend. I posted something very similar on my blog yesterday. I am loving watching these guys play! I’m really hoping that they are going to wear the throwbacks again too. I heard, but I could be wrong, that they’ll be wearing them four times this season. We’ll see.
