There are a few interesting new shows in this Fall’s lineup that I’ve been wanting to check out. Top on the list was the mysterious FlashForward. Kara and I started watching it via Hulu a little over a week ago and we’re intrigued. The concept – that everyone in the world blacked out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds at the exact same time, and when they were unconscious they all had a dream about the exact same moment 6 months into the future – is very interesting.
As you can imagine, much of the show (so far) has revolved around finding out why everyone blacked out, or finding out who caused it and if it will happen again. But it’s the “flash forwards” that everyone had that is making the show really interesting. Some people saw terrible things, some people saw amazing things they’d hoped for… whatever it was that a person saw, it’s beginning to have a big impact on the present as people try to figure out if these flash forwards are inevitable, or if their destiny can be altered.
The concept and the plot-side of the writing is really carrying the show right now, which is good because some of the actors have yet to hit their stride. I think we’ll stick with it though, the mystery behind the story is worth hanging in there while the dialog and acting shapes up.

I’ve really enjoyed flashforward so far. I think eventually it will be a storyline that can’t be sustained very well over the long term and when that point comes it will become unbearably corny (i.e. Heroes). I mean, if their flash forwards are just 6 months in the future, it is going to take some serious creativity to carry the story line past that point in any credibly interesting way. But for now, I’m loving it. I think it a great picture of how Christians should live in view of the Kingdom of God: we’ve all gotten a glimpse of our future reality and now we have to figure out what it means to live in the present having gotten that glimpse of the future. Its a concept that allows to imagine what it means to have our present shaped by our future rather than solely by our past.
Dude, I thought the exact thing about how it’s an intriguing storyline but mediocre acting. I’m enjoying it, though. It’s kind of got a heroes feel to it. Like the writing is shooting to include a younger crowd. I’m actually interesting in read the book now. But I’m really waiting for February! Remember when we watched the LOST season three finale at the kingdom house here in KC? Fun times. Hope you all are doing well!
Lauren and I are also really enjoying Flash Forward, but the acting, mainly Joseph Fiennes (the main character) is terribly bad. How can Joseph be so bad when Ralph, his brother, is so good?
