2009 Oscar Picks (to date)

February 22nd, 2009 will be the 81st Annual Acadamey Awards celebration.  So… we’re a few months out and haven’t hit the holiday movie rush but if the Oscars were held today, who would you nominate for best picture, best director, best actor in a leading role, best actress in a leading role and best original screenplay?

    From the looks of things, films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road, Milk, and Synecdoche, New York will make a big impact, but as of today these would be my picks…

    Best Picture
    Appaloosa
    The Dark Knight

    Best Director
    Christopher Nolan - The Dark Knight

    Best Actor in a Leading Role
    Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight scratch that, he was a supporting actor.
    Josh Brolin - W.
    Robert Downey Jr. - Iron Man
    Viggo Mortensen - Appaloosa

    Best Actress in a Leading Role

    Best Original Screenplay

    I may have to do a list of “Oscar predictions from people who only get to see movies they take their kids to.”

    Best Actor: Wall E
    Best Movie: Wall E, Iron Man
    Best Director: person who directed Wall E
    Best actress: Eve

    It looks to me like “Rachel Getting Married” wants to be Oscar bait, but doesn’t it seem like there are very few movies that fit that mold this year?

    Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt (total prediction, trailer looks like he could pull of best actor)

    Best Actress in a Leading Role
    Frances McDormand in Burn After Reading
